In this project, you will be provided chances to get the answers for all the questions above! Through reading and listening to related materials, interviewing different Chinese people, and reporting your interview findings, you will investigate and reveal more interesting facts about culture of Chinese names. Learning Objectives:
- Culturally, understand Chinese names as a cultural topic more profoundly, insightfully, and dynamically.
- Linguistically, learn and be able to utilize appropriate language forms in term of both vocabulary and grammatical structures needed for interviews and presentations.
- Cognitively, improve your critical thinking, learning autonomy, and collaboration skills.
Project Components:
- Readings - You will be reading two passages taken from different sources touching upon different cultural aspects of Chinese names.
- Video - You will be watching a short clip taken from "Kangxi Coming" in which a Chinese female actress talking about her story of name changing.
- Interview Design - You will be listening to three interviews conducted by Chinese people asking about more fun things about Chinese names. You will be provided chances to interact with your classmates through different kinds of activities.
- Final Product - 1) You will interview two Chinese people on the topics/aspects of Chinese names you are interested in. 2) You will summarize your findings and share what you found with the rest of the class through oral presentations.
- Self Reflection - Finally, you will be provided an opportunity to reflect what you did and how you did in your project.
